Dear Montana Cancer Moonshot Participant:
On behalf of the Montana Cancer Moonshot Summit planning team we would like to thank you for you participation in your regional summit. As you know, here in Montana we held mini summits in Kalispell, Bozeman and Billings.
We wanted to follow up with you to let you know what we did with your suggestions, how to follow the progress of the White House Cancer Moonshot Campaign, and how you can get involved here in Montana.
The planning team collected all of the input from each of the summits and submitted the national recommendations to the White House. The White House will review ALL of the suggestions from across the nation. It will use this information as part of the process of determining which cancer prevention, early detection, access to care and research initiatives it will invest in. Here is a link to the report that was sent to the White House.
You can follow the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative by frequently checking their website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/cancermoonshot.
The state and local suggestions were compiled and are included in this email. They will also be presented at the Montana Cancer Coalition (MTCC) statewide meeting that will be held in October.
You will help us achieve our goals. Here are three ways you can get involved here in Montana.
1. If you are not already a member of the Montana Cancer Coalition please join here. You can do so by filling out this application and then submitting it to the MTCC Outreach Coordinator at [email protected].
2. To keep up-to-date and take action on cancer related public policy on the local, state and federal levels, please consider joining MTCC partner, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). Many of the most important decisions about cancer are made outside of your doctor’s office. Instead, they are made by your state legislature, in Congress and in the White House. ACS CAN empowers regular people to be part of the growing national movement that is fighting back against cancer. You can become a member here, or if you are interested in getting involved in our 2017 legislative efforts, send an email to Grassroots Manager Chelsia Rice.
3. The Cancer Support Community Montana works to ensure all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. To this goal, we offer many different opportunities for you to get involved through educational sessions, support groups, fun activities and more. Find a role for you at http://cancersupportmontana.org/.
Again, thank you for your time and commitment to help us do our part to double the rate of progress toward a cure. The ultimate goal is to make a decade worth of advances in five years. Getting it done isn’t just going to take the best and brightest across the medical, research, and data communities — but millions of Americans owning a stake of it.
Until we meet again,
Kristin Page-Nei, Montana Government Relations Director, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
Becky Franks, Executive Director, Cancer Support Community Montana
